Push permission — how customers allow notifications

Push notifications are how birthday rewards, win-back offers and 7-day notices actually reach your customers — instantly and free (no per-message cost, unlike SMS).

What customers need to do

  1. Install the app — open your check-in link and Add to Home Screen. Push requires the installed app:
  2. iPhone: needs iOS 16.4+ and the app installed via Share → Add to Home Screen.
  3. Android: works right after installing to home screen via Chrome.
  4. Allow notifications — the app asks at the right moment, with a plain-English reason ("Get your birthday treat and rewards reminders?"). One tap to allow.

How the app asks (and why it's polite about it)

Nobody taps "Allow" on a surprise popup. The Member app shows a value-first card first — explaining what they'll get (birthday treats, rewards reminders) — and only then the browser's permission prompt. Members who decline can allow later from Settings → Notifications in the app.

What sends as push

Push vs SMS

Push SMS
Cost to you Free, unlimited Per-message
Requires App installed Phone number (they all have one)
Best for Regulars with the app Everyone else

Members without the app installed automatically fall back to SMS for critical notices (birthdays, win-backs) — no one is missed, you just pay SMS rates for that smaller group.

Getting more of your customers on push

The single biggest lever: make installing worth it. Run an installation push at the counter ("install and get 50 bonus points"), and your win-back and birthday reachability jumps.
